200 Years of Hindi Journalism Celebrated in Bhilai: Seminar Highlights Indian Ethos and Media Integrity

Bhilai, Chhattisgarh — September 22, 2025:
To mark the 200th anniversary of Hindi journalism, a thought-provoking seminar titled “Bharat Bodh, Indian Identity, and Hindi Journalism” was held today at Mahatma Gandhi Kala Mandir, Civic Center, Bhilai. The event was graced by Shri Gajendra Yadav, Minister for School Education, Village Industries, Law and Legislative Affairs, as the chief guest.

Renowned journalist and columnist Shri Anant Vijay, along with Dr. Sanjay Dwivedi, Vice Chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, served as keynote speakers. Shri Shashank Sharma, President of Chhattisgarh Sahitya Akademi, joined as a guest speaker.

In his address, Minister Shri Gajendra Yadav emphasized the need for credibility and positivity in modern journalism, citing examples like the Jhiram Valley incident and the Scouts & Guides Jamboree in Dimrapal, Jagdalpur. He stressed that negative news can destabilize society, while positive reporting fosters progress and unity. He called upon journalists to uphold their role as the fourth pillar of democracy, guiding public discourse with responsibility.

The seminar also witnessed the release of two special publications:

  • Bahumat’s 148th edition, focused on Hindi journalism
  • Vasundhara’s 123rd edition, titled “Foundation Stones of Hindi Journalism in Chhattisgarh”

Keynote speakers Shri Anant Vijay and Dr. Sanjay Dwivedi delved into the philosophical and cultural dimensions of Indian journalism, while Shri Shashank Sharma highlighted the literary legacy of Hindi media.

Organized by Shri Vinod Mishra, the event drew a large gathering of intellectuals, journalists, and public representatives. The program was anchored by journalist Dr. Vishwesh Thakre and author Shweta Upadhyay. Distinguished attendees included Dr. Sanjay Tiwari, Vice Chancellor of Hemchand University; MLA Shri Lalit Chandrakar; former minister Smt. Ramshila Sahu; and other dignitaries.
