The Urban Administration and Development Department of Chhattisgarh has fast-tracked plans to introduce 240 e-buses across Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, and Durg-Bhilai, ensuring cleaner and more efficient transportation. Under the ambitious Prime Minister’s E-Bus Service scheme, the state is set to implement this initiative to enhance urban mobility.
With the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao, a one-day training session was held to strengthen the capabilities of SUDA and urban officials for the effective rollout of the e-bus service. The minister emphasized rapid execution to make pollution-free public transport accessible to citizens. Experts from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs provided technical guidance during multiple training sessions at Naya Raipur’s Vishram Bhawan, ensuring seamless operations of the new fleet.
SUDA CEO Shashank Pandey highlighted that the Prime Minister’s E-Bus Service Scheme would be a milestone in urban transport, making affordable and pollution-free travel available. A total of 240 e-buses have been allocated for Chhattisgarh, with Raipur receiving 100, Durg-Bhilai and Bilaspur 50 each, and Korba 40. Infrastructure investments amounting to ₹67.4 crores have been approved for bus depots, civil infrastructure, and power supply—Raipur receiving ₹27.23 crores, Durg-Bhilai ₹17.75 crores, Bilaspur ₹11.45 crores, and Korba ₹10.97 crores.
Experts stressed the environmental benefits of e-buses in mitigating vehicular emissions, which remain a significant contributor to pollution. Industry specialists, including IUT’s Ekta Kapoor, WRI India’s Chintan Daftardar, and CESL representatives, elaborated on institutional frameworks, contract management, and financial processes for efficient service implementation. Officials across urban development sectors, including SUDA, municipal corporations, and engineering teams, actively participated in the training.
With a strong focus on sustainability and urban development, Chhattisgarh’s e-bus initiative is poised to revolutionize transport services, setting an example for clean and efficient city mobility.
