Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV Detained During ‘Sansad Gherao’ Protest at Jantar Mantar

A Flashback to Srinivas BV's Earlier Escape from Police Detention

Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV Detained During ‘Sansad Gherao’ Protest at Jantar Mantar

On Tuesday, August 8, the president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), Srinivas BV, along with several others, found himself detained by the police as they attempted a ‘Sansad Gherao’ protest. The demonstration kicked off at Jantar Mantar, where the IYC members rallied for a ‘Sansad Gherao’ agitation, brandishing posters and raising spirited slogans against the Central government. Videos capturing the fervor of the protest quickly went viral across social media platforms. One particular video captured the moment when Srinivas BV was escorted away from the protest site by the police. This time, his attempt at evading detention wasn’t as successful as before.

Srinivas BV’s earlier evasion of police arrest gained attention in June 2022, when a video depicting the incident went viral on social media. The scene unfolded outside the Enforcement Directorate offices in Delhi, where Congress supporters had created a ruckus while protesting in support of Rahul Gandhi, who was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged financial misconduct. In the video, as a police officer approached him after his arrival at the ED office in his SUV, Srinivas BV swiftly took off, making a dash to avoid being apprehended.

Ironically, earlier in the same day, Srinivas had expressed his lack of fear towards the police and confidently affirmed that Congress party workers would undoubtedly stage a march in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi, who was under the scrutiny of the ED for financial irregularities. However, when faced with the sight of the first policeman, Srinivas’s bravado seemed to falter, and he opted for a hasty retreat.

The recent detention during the ‘Sansad Gherao’ protest at Jantar Mantar serves as a stark reminder of Srinivas BV’s earlier attempt to evade police arrest. The two instances highlight the challenges and dynamics of political protests and the unpredictable outcomes that can emerge, even for those in positions of leadership and authority within political organizations. As such incidents continue to shape public perception, they underscore the complexities inherent in the relationship between political activism and law enforcement.
