Religious Procession in Nuh Turns Violent as Muslim Mob Attacks Hindu Devotees
On July 31st, the serene atmosphere of Nuh, Mewat, was shattered as a Muslim mob resorted to violence against thousands of Hindu devotees participating in the VHP Shobha Yatra. The procession, an annual “Jalabhishek Yatra” on the auspicious Shravan Somvar, has been a tradition for four years. However, this year’s event was marred by a series of disturbing attacks on the devotees.
Reports from Hindu devotees recount a horrifying scene, with stones raining down from rooftops, young Muslim individuals shooting from elevated mountainous areas, acid bottles being hurled, and several women subjected to harassment. Amid the chaos, around 2000-2500 women and children found refuge in a temple, their safety compromised for hours until police intervention.
Tragically, some devotees fell victim to the merciless violence of the Muslim mob. One harrowing account tells the tale of Abhishek, a Hindu devotee who was first shot, then had his throat slit, and ultimately had his head brutally crushed with a large stone.
In the aftermath, an injured Haryana Police SPO shed light on the origins of the violence. The SPO, who sustained injuries during the stone pelting, recounted the sequence of events leading to the outbreak. He revealed that the Shobha Yatra had been proceeding peacefully until a Muslim mob gathered, resulting in stone pelting. He emphasized that the mob began to assemble as the Hindu devotees’ crowd grew, underscoring that the Muslim mob was the instigator.
The SPO’s testimony provides a crucial perspective on the incident, suggesting that the Muslim mob’s response to the Hindu religious procession was the catalyst for the violent confrontation.
