CBI Raids Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel’s Homes in Mahadev Betting App Scam Probe
Raipur, March 26, 2025 – In a dramatic turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out extensive raids today at the residences of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in Raipur and Bhilai. These raids are part of a high-profile investigation into the alleged Mahadev betting app scam, which has been under scrutiny for facilitating illegal betting activities across India.
The Mahadev betting app, infamous for enabling betting on live games such as cricket, poker, tennis, football, and even elections, has reportedly amassed proceeds of crime amounting to ₹450 crore monthly. The Enforcement Directorate had previously named Baghel in a supplementary chargesheet, accusing him of receiving bribes totaling ₹508 crore from the app’s promoters.
Today’s raids extended beyond Baghel’s properties, with simultaneous searches conducted at over 60 locations across Chhattisgarh, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Delhi. These included premises linked to politicians, senior bureaucrats, police officers, and other key figures suspected of involvement in the scam.
Reacting to the raids, Baghel hinted at political motives behind the timing, as he was scheduled to attend a Congress meeting in Delhi later today. “Now the CBI has arrived,” he posted on social media, suggesting that the raids were intended to disrupt his political activities.
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao dismissed these allegations, emphasizing that the raids were part of an independent investigation into corruption during Baghel’s tenure. Sao reiterated that central agencies like the CBI operate independently and are not influenced by political agendas.
The Mahadev betting app case has become a focal point of controversy in Chhattisgarh, with allegations of “protection money” being paid to public servants to ensure the smooth operation of the illegal betting network. The case has also raised broader concerns about governance and accountability in the state.
As the investigation progresses, today’s raids mark a significant development in the fight against corruption and illegal activities in Chhattisgarh. The CBI’s actions underscore its commitment to uncovering the truth behind the Mahadev betting app scam and holding those responsible accountable.
